Banknotes

Definition of terms:

(UNC (UNCIRCULATED) – a new banknote that has not been used – a perfectly preserved note. It has never been misused by a representative of the issuing authority, bank tellers, the public or a collector.
The paper is clean and stiff, without discoloration. The edges are sharp and square, without any evidence of roundness. Rounded corners are often a telltale sign of a note that has been cleaned or “altered”.
A note that is not smashed will retain its natural and original paper.

(AU (ABOUT UNCIRCULATED – NEARLY NEW – A NEARLY PERFECT BANK, which has undergone minimal use. There may be traces of bank count folds in the corner or a minute fold in the middle, but not both. An AU note cannot be creased, a crease is a hard fold which usually “Breaks” the area of the bill.
The paper is clean and bright, with an original color. The corners are not rounded.

EF (EXTREMELY FINE – excellent – a very nice banknote, with slight signs of use. It shows three fine folds or one strong fold mark. The paper is clean and bright, with original color. You can see a slight rounding in the corners. There may be a secondary sign of wear where the fold intersects with the paper runner.

(VF) (VERY FINE – very beautiful – a handsome banknote but with more signs of use and wear. A banknote of this kind can have a few folds across and along it.
The paper may be slightly dirty or stained. The paper itself is still relatively stiff and shapeless.
There are no signs of tearing on its outer parts, although the edges show signs of wear. The corners also look worn but not completely rounded.

(F (FINE – beautiful – a bill that shows signs of having been used for a long time, with many folds and wrinkles. The paper does not have to be very dirty but can be a soft bill. The edges show signs of wear and you can see small tears at the edges (which do not reach the illustrations). It cannot be A tear or hole in the center due to multiple folding. The colors are clear but not bright. It will not be uncommon to find a hole or two due to use of the match.

(VG (VERY GOOD – a used but still intact banknote. The corners can already be worn and very round. Small tears can be seen. The tears can reach the illustration area, the banknote is colorless and stained. You can see a tiny hole in the middle due to overfolding. There are holes A match or staples and the bill itself is misshapen, but there are no missing parts of the bill.

(GOOD – a very used banknote, which has been in circulation for a long time.
