Official silver medal for flying an Israeli missile into the atmosphere – 1962
In 1961, Israel successfully sent a missile for atmospheric research, which was designed, built and launched by a team of Israeli scientists and technicians.
On the surface of the medal, designed by Yaakov Zim, is a stylish painting of the earth. From a launch facility in Israel, a missile rises up to the stars in the sky, and the verse: "Through the star of Jacob."
On the back of the medal is the national emblem, and an inscription in English: "Awarded to …". Free space for embossing the name of the recipient of the medal. Below is David Ben-Gurion’s signature in Hebrew, and an inscription in English: "David Ben-Gurion, Prime Minister".
