Israel’s 16th Anniversary of Independence Coin 5724-1964
The Israel Museum, located opposite the Knesset, Israel’s parliament building and overlooking the Valley of the Cross is made up of a complex of buildings, some of which are unique in their appearance. The Samuel Bronfman Biblical and Archaelogical Museum houses many fine specimens of archeological finds from Israel and the Middle East.
The Shrine of the Book houses the Dead Sea Scrolls, which were found in the Judean Desert, and manuscripts from biblical days.
The Billy Rose Garden includes a collection of sculptures dating from the 19th century to the present time. The Bezalel National Museum includes a rich collection of Judaica and other artistic works.
Obverse: Replica of the capital and part of a pillar, of the 7th of 8th century BCE, found at Ramat Rachel on the outskirts of Jerusalem, in the proto-Aeolic Phoenician style which was introduced by foreign craftsmen engaged for the construction of theTemple of Solomon. On the pillar, in three lines, the name "Israel" in Hebrew and in Arabic, with the year 1964 and its Hebrew rendering. The face value "5 Israeli Lirot" appears in Hebrew, upper right.
Reverse: A stylized relief of the buildings on ‘Museum Hill’. In the lower border, the words "Israel Museum Jerusalem" in Hebrew.
