Israel - 10 Lirot 1970 - NGC PF 68 - Mikveh Israel Centenary
Israel’s 22nd Anniversary of Independence Coin 5730-1970
The Alliance Israelite Universelle was founded in Paris in 1860. It was the first Jewish international organization whose aim was to combat anti-semitism and social discrimination.
Along with its political activities it undertook to establish an educational network. It opened schools in 15 countries from Morocco to Persia, where there were Jewish communities, often in conditions of squalor and ignorance.
In 1870, on the initiative of Karl Netter, the first agricultural school in the land of Israel was founded. The aim was to develop a new generation of Jews who would find themselves an honourable livelihood in agricultural pursuits.
