Palestine - Zichron Jacob - 1/4 Piaster 1885 - PCGS XF 45 - Extremely Rare
Brass token about 1/4 Piester, for use by members of the Zichron Yaacov colony and nearby communities. It was minted in Paris in 1885 due to a shortage of small money and was used in the holyland for about a year until the governor of the Ottoman Empire discovered the “commemorative coins of Zichron Jacob” had boycotted and banned their use. Few survived in private hands. The item is rare in each of the three parameters of rarity, rare in quality, quantity and frequency.
The first coin used in Israel with the Hebrew inscription after thousands of years.
