Israel - 1 Shekel 2006 - NGC MS 68 - Abraham and The Angels 2006

11th in the Biblical Art Coin Series

Abraham was sitting by his tent in the desert heat and Sarah his wife, in her admirable modest manner, was inside the tent, when three men appeared. Immediately, Abraham ran to offer warm hospitality to the wayfarers, not knowing that they were angels disguised as men, who had come with a mission. They had come to announce that Sarah was to give birth to a son, through whom Abraham would become the father of a great nation . For Sarah aged 89 and Abraham, 99, this news was unbelievable. Miraculously, it came true and Sarah gave birth to Isaac.
Obverse: Face value in Hebrew and English, Israel State emblem, "Israel" in English, Hebrew and Arabic, mint year; heavenly stars to the left symbolizing the Divine promise to Abraham that his descendants would multiply as the stars of the heavens, inscription "Abraham and the Three Angels Gen. 18" in Hebrew, English and Arabic. On the small gold coin only the word "Abraham" is inscribed, in Hebrew, English and Arabic.
Reverse: Abraham greeting the three angels, while Sarah modestly joins in greeting from inside the tent. On the small gold coin, the lower edges of the angels’ cloaks form a straight line.
