The Dachau concentration camp (German: Konzentrationslager Dachau) was a Nazi concentration camp near the city of Dachau in Germany. After the war, neighborhoods of the city were built around the camp.
Dachau was a concentration camp and not an extermination camp like Auschwitz, Treblinka and others, but many Jewish prisoners and Soviet prisoners of war died in the camp due to the terrible living conditions. Of the 200,000 prisoners who passed through it in its 12 years of existence, an estimated 30,000 perished. Gas chambers were set up in the camp, but they were never used. However, the crematoria built outside the camp fences burned the bodies of prisoners who died in the camp.
