Independence Day Coin, 1994 5754, 46th Anniversary
The Israel Government declared the year 5754 "Year of the Environment". Intensive activity and educational efforts were aimed at preserving the environment and increasing awareness of the importance of clean air and water. In this spirit, the Israel Independence Day Coin1994 was also dedicated to the environment. The State of Israel recognized the national importance of this subject and joined the worldwide efforts to protect Planet Earth. Much had already been achieved in cleaning coasts and streams, rehabilitating rivers, recycling waste, prevention of air pollution and educating towards environmental protection in schools.
This beautiful coin depicts the Earth at the center of the petals of a flower, symbolizing its fragility.
Obverse: Face value in Hebrew and English, 1 New Sheqel on the Silver B.U. Coin, 2 New Sheqalim on the Silver Proof Coin, 5 New Sheqalim on the 22mm Gold Coin and 10 New Sheqalim on the 30mm Gold Coin. Above the face value is the Israel State Emblem, around the lower border, the mint year 1994 / 5754 and the word "ISRAEL’ in Hebrew, Arabic and English.
Reverse: The Earth as the center of a flower surrounded by petals, symbolizing the fragility of the environment and the need to protect it. Around the border, "FOR A BETTER ENVIRONMENT" in English in the lower half, in Hebrew in the upper half.
