Ottoman coins were used throughout the Ottoman Empire, sometimes alongside other European coins. Most Ottoman coins are decorated with the image of the Torah, the signature of the Ottoman Sultan.
The Ottoman coins were the main coins used in the Land of Israel in the 19th century. Additional coins were introduced for use by subjects and consulates of other countries, such as Russia and Great Britain, as part of the capitulation regime in the Ottoman Empire.
