Rabin was a battalion commander in the Palmach, the commander of the Harel Brigade in the War of Independence, the 7th Chief of Staff of the IDF, which he commanded during the Six Day War. After retiring from the IDF, he was Israel’s ambassador to the United States and Prime Minister of Israel on behalf of the Labor Party for two terms: the first in 1974-1977, during which Operation Jonathan was launched, and the second in 1992-1995, during which the Oslo Accords and the peace agreement with Jordan were signed. In addition, he served as Minister of Defense for about nine years.
