Ottoman coins were used throughout the Ottoman Empire, sometimes alongside other European currencies. Most Ottoman coins are decorated with the image of the Torah, the signature of the Ottoman Sultan.
The Ottoman coins were the main currencies used in Israel in the 19th century. Additional coins were put into use by nationals and consulates of other countries, such as Russia and Britain, as part of the capitulation regime in the Ottoman Empire.
