Three years after the establishment of the State of Israel, the government decided to print a new series of banknotes, the "Bank Leumi" series, and at the same time allocated the public a short time of nearly two weeks to replace "Anglo-Palestine" banknotes with "Bank Leumi" banknotes. All this by clearing 10% of the value of the note (a person who brought a 10 pound bill received 9 pounds in return), due to the little time citizens had to exchange the bills and despite the high commission, there were very long queues to replace them.
