Judaica / Zionism - Medal for the "Eretz Israel Hebrew Battalion", a service award given...

Judaica / Zionism – Medal for the "Eretz Israel Hebrew Battalion", a service award given by Haim Weizmann – 1918

In the first half of the 20th century, with the rapid increase in the number of Jews in the Land of Israel, and then with the renewal of political independence, the design of the Roman currency, "captive Judea", was used from 70 AD. The first variation, "Liberating Judea, " was issued in 1918. The second variation, Liberated Israel, was issued in 1958 by the Decade Committee.
The Roman currency with the variations minted in the Land of Israel
In 1918, the Land of Israel was occupied by the British, thus ending the 400-year rule of the Ottoman Empire in the country. Shortly afterwards, the young Zionist leader, Haim Weizmann, presented the participants with the "Order of the 40th Battalion of His Majesty the Scouts", or as it is known as the "Hebrew Battalion of Eretz Israel", as a token of appreciation for their service. The pendant is called the "Judah Liberating" medal or as it is also called the "Volunteer Medal".
The liberating Judah Medal
It is estimated that about 100 units were produced. This medal, designed and produced by Bezalel in Jerusalem, draws its inspiration from the Roman coin, but the design is an antithesis to the motifs in the Roman coin. It can be seen that the Roman soldier turns to flee with his gaze turned back in apprehension while the captive Judah gets to her feet and cuts off her shackles. The caption also uses a tone of hope – "Judah who is being released."
