Israel – Pair of HAKHEL medals – 935 silver, 26g, 37mm.

Official Medal 2002/5762.
Israel, One People, One Heart.
The source of the Hakhel (gathering together) precept is in Deuteronomy 31:12. In Temple times, the Hakhel event was one of the most glorious events that was held on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, once in seven years, on the Succot following the Shemitah Year (the “sabbatical year” of the land, when it was to be left fallow). With the return to Zion, the Hakhel custom was reintroduced in 1945 and since then, it has taken place every seven years, enhancing the unity among the people of Israel. The official Hakhel Medal is a tangible expression of the impressive Hakhel event. Depicted on the medal are the Jubilee Shofars, the Walls of Jerusalem, the gathering of the people and the King reading from the Torah, the Book of the Law. Around this dramatic artistic rendering is the beautiful and moving inscription “Israel, One People, One Heart”.
Obverse: In the center, the King reading from the Scroll of the Law during the "Hakhel" event (Gathering of the People following the Jubilee Year), the inscription "Hakhel LeIsrael" in Hebrew and English.
Reverse: Jubilee Shofars being blown over the Walls of Jerusalem, Inscription: “Israel, One People, One Heart”.
