Israel – Tribe of "Zebulun"ת State Medal – 1993 – Silver 999, 105g, 60X48 mm
The series of painting depicting the Twelve Tribes by Salvador Dali honored Israel’s 25th Anniversary. Though not Jewish, Dali was profoundly impressed by the rebirth of a Jewish state after 2,000 years of exile. Zebulun: " Zebulun dwells by the sea-shore, his shore is a haven for ships, and his frontier rests on Sidon" (Genesis 49:13). Although Zebulun was regarded as a tribe of sailors, the Prophetess Deborah praised it for not behaving like the other sea-faring tribes, Dan and Asher. The territory of Zebulun stretched from the area of central Galilee, today known as the Valley of Zebulun, to Haifa.
